Rep. Schiff Statement on House GOP’s Poison-Pilled NDAA

Washington, D.C.— Today, Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released the following statement after voting no on the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which included poison-pill amendments from House Republicans that infringe on the rights of women and LGBTQ servicemembers:

“Once again, far-right Republicans in the House are inserting their anti-choice, climate denying, anti-LGBTQ amendments into the national defense bill. Not even our service members are safe from the political games that have become the calling card of this Republican-led House. Our service members deserve better than to be caught in the middle of political disputes and culture wars.

While I support many aspects of this bill, from pay raises to quality of life improvements, we need a defense bill that supports and invests in our troops without undermining their rights and freedoms. By including provisions that roll back protections for women and LGBTQ servicemembers, halt progress on climate action, and undermine efforts to make our military a safe and welcoming place for all who wish to serve, this bill fails to honor the commitment we have to our troops. We must stand firm in ensuring all our service members are treated with the respect and fairness they deserve, free from partisan interference.”
