Being your voice in Congress is a tremendous honor and responsibility. Every day, my staff and I work around the clock to make life in the 30th District the best it can be for families, children, business owners, and every member of our community. Below you'll find a few examples of cases where my office was able to help constituents with a federal agency. Click here for more information or to submit a casework authorization form.

Tsolere's story
Tsolere is a full-time worker and mother to an infant son, who three years ago sponsored her husband, Sevag, to come to the United States from Lebanon. In December 2021, she contacted Congressman Schiff's office to request expedited scheduling of her husband's visa interview at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. With Congressman Schiff's help, Tsolere was successfully able to update her visa petition category and expedite the scheduling of her husband’s visa interview.
"Thank you to the Congressman and his office for all of their help! It has been a very difficult few years, but I feel so much better now that my family has been reunited." - Tsolere (Glendale)
SERJ AND NANOR'S STORY
Serj and Nanor applied for their work authorizations in June 2021, which were still pending as of March 2022. Without proper work permits, they feared they would both be placed on administrative leave by the end of the month, and become delinquent on a series of payments including their mortgage, car, health insurance, and children's daycare tuition. With Congressman Schiff's help, they were both able to obtain their work permits.
"We are so thankful for your help obtaining our work permits. Without your assistance, we don't know what we would have done this past year. Thank you Congressman Schiff and team!" - Serj and Nanor (Glendale)
JANE's STORY
In September 2019, due to a clerical error by the IRS, Jane was wrongly assessed a $200,000 penalty. Despite requesting a review of her account, the penalty grew, and the IRS threatened to put a lien on her home and garnish her Social Security benefits. Jane reached out to Congressman Schiff's office, which submitted an inquiry on her behalf to the Local Taxpayer Advocate in Los Angeles. Jane's account was corrected, and the penalty was abated in full.
"Thank you for helping to resolve my difficult problem with the IRS. I had heard about the program and am grateful that you were able and willing to help." - Jane (Los Feliz)
ANTHONY's STORY
Anthony, a combat veteran, requires a CPAP machine for obstructive sleep apnea connected to his time in service. When his CPAP device was recalled and he was faced with a long wait for a replacement, he reached out to Congressman Schiff's office for help liaising with the VA. With Congressman Schiff's help, Anthony was able to secure a replacement device and continue his critical treatment.
"Thank you and your staff from the bottom of my heart for facilitating the replacement of my recalled CPAP device...I am so proud to be one of your constituents." - Anthony (West Hollywood)
OBETON'S STORY
Obeton reached out to Congressman Schiff's office for help getting an emergency appointment to replace a stolen passport. With Congressman Schiff's help, he was able to obtain one in time for his grandmother’s funeral in Jamaica.

KIM's STORY
After Kim's husband passed away, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued a $289.20 check in his name. Kim reached out to Congressman Schiff's office requesting help getting the check re-issued to her. After submitting an inquiry to CMS, the case was assigned to a Health Insurance Specialist, which was able to get her information verified and send her the money via direct deposit.
"Congressman Schiff's office was able to help me navigate the difficult time after my husband's passing. I am so grateful for everyone on the team who helped me through this process." - Kim (Glendale)
MO's STORY
Mo reached out to Congressman Schiff's office for help getting their passport adjudicated in time to attend an important work conference. Mo applied for the new gender marker on their U.S. passport, but the only passport agency that processes X gender marker applications is in Washington, D.C. If Mo would have gone in for an emergency passport appointment at the Los Angeles Passport Agency, they would have only been able to apply for a M or F gender marker passport. Congressman Schiff's office was able to get Mo a passport with an X gender marker in time for their work trip.
"I am so thrilled not only to have gotten my new passport in such a rush, but one that reflects who I am. Thank you so much to Rep. Schiff and his team, being able to attend the conference was a huge step in my career!" - Mo (Burbank)
AN ANONYMOUS STORY
This constituent is from Iran where, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, they lived in fear of harassment and persecution. They applied for asylum in the United States in 2015, and in June 2021 reached out to Congressman Schiff's office seeking assistance to expedite their work permit and legal resident status. With Congressman Schiff's help, they were able to successfully obtain their work permit and eventually their green card.
"I wanted to thank the office of Rep. Schiff for all you have done for me! I finally got the approval for my asylum case, and it's definitely due to your follow-ups and help, which I appreciate so much!" Anonymous
