Rep. Schiff Releases Statement in Support of President Biden Expanding Health Coverage to DACA Recipients

Washington, D.C.— Today, Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released the following statement expressing his strong support for President Biden’s recent announcement that a new final rule will enable Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients to access Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage. This landmark decision is expected to extend health insurance benefits to over 100,000 young people.

“For too long, DACA recipients have been barred from purchasing the health care coverage they deserve despite paying billions in taxes each year. This important decision by President Biden will help improve the health and well-being of thousands of DACA recipients in California and across the country. We know there is still more work to do and I am committed to ensuring that DACA recipients are provided the long term stability and security that comes from citizenship,” said Rep. Schiff.

Schiff has been a consistent champion for dreamers. Last year, he joined the bipartisan American Dream and Promise Act of 2023 which would provide a pathway to citizenship for eligible DACA recipients. He also introduced the Equal Health Care for All Act that would make equal access to health care a protected civil right and address racial inequities and systemic failures in the United States medical system that continue to exacerbate health and mortality disparities among Black, Hispanic, and Indigenous communities.
