Statement: Rep. Schiff Demands Speaker Johnson Bring Emergency Supplemental Aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan to House Floor
Washington, D.C.— Today, Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released the following statement following the passage of emergency supplemental aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as humanitarian aid, in the Senate.
“Today, the Senate did what Speaker Johnson should have done four months ago: pass emergency aid to support our allies.
“It is shocking that in their times of greatest need, we have not been able to support Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as pass much-needed humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza, because Republicans in Congress have played cynical political games.
“The stakes could not be higher. To fail in our support for our allies is to weaken our own position on the global stage. It sends a message to our adversaries that our resolve is wavering and that our international commitments can be undermined by internal divisions.
”Speaker Johnson must not dither any further, no matter what political pressure he may receive from Trump and the MAGA wing of his party. It is urgent that he allow this package to be brought to the House floor, passed, and sent to President Biden's desk without any further delay. Our commitment to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, and the need to provide humanitarian support, must transcend party and political differences if we are to support democracy and human rights around the world.”
