Schiff Statement on President Obama's Call for the Removal of Bashar Assad as Syria's President
Washington, DC –Today, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) released the following statement after President Obama called for the removal of Bashar Assad as Syria’s president:
“I am pleased that President Obama has now called for the removal of Bashar Assad as Syria’s president and has further tightened economic sanctions on the Syrian regime. I have been calling for Assad's departure for months and firmly believe that the Syrian dictator cannot be allowed to remain in power now that he has the blood of thousands of his own people on his hands. It is long past time for the international community to stand foursquare behind the Syrian people, who have shown remarkable courage in standing up to their oppressor, by strengthening sanctions until Assad steps down.”
