Schiff Pushes Postmaster General to Address Working Conditions in Carson Service Center

Burbank, California - Today, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) wrote to Postmaster General of the United States and Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. Postal Service Louis DeJoy pushing him to address working conditions at the Carson Service Center where workers have reported near-freezing temperatures within the facility.

The workers at the facility reported to Schiff that there is no heat and they have been forced to work in near freezing indoor temperatures, below 40 degrees Fahrenheit since October. There are also reportedly issues regarding compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act at the site.

The National Postal Mail Handlers’ Union, Local 303, the union representing the 500 employees at the facility, have expressed their intention to picket due to the working conditions. The union reached out to Schiff solicitations his support for the picket.

“These employees have remained on the job as they are deeply committed to the mission of the USPS. Their commitment should be met with equal determination by management to provide a working environment with safe working conditions that meets their needs,” said Schiff. “Americans across the region rely on the critical service of the Postal Service and therefore rely on the efficiency and safety of these workers.”
