Rep. Schiff Votes to Expel Rep. George Santos from the House
Washington, D.C. — Today, Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released the following statement after the bipartisan vote to expel Representative George Santos (R-N.Y.) from the House:
“I do not take this vote for expulsion lightly. Being a member of Congress is a privilege, and one that I value every single day. It is not something that anyone is entitled to, but neither should the decision of voters to place a person in that position be easily cast aside.
“Rep. Santos misused campaign money to fund his extravagant lifestyle, on luxury goods, Botox and personal expenses. He’s been indicted, most assuredly committed fraud, and lied about everything, all the time.
“The House Committee on Ethics released a report that showed Rep. Santos exploited his position of power for his personal and financial gain in almost every respect, all while weakening faith in our institutions. He is not deserving of the title of Representative.
“It is a shame that those who entrusted Rep. Santos to represent them have not had honest representation for almost a year, and that most Republicans in Congress refused to hold him accountable until now.
“I hope today’s vote to expel Rep. Santos sends a message to others running for office that their campaign accounts are not their personal property, nor a slush fund for their private aggrandizement.”
