Rep. Schiff Statement on Biden Administration’s Gun Violence Prevention Strategy
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) issued the following statement after President Biden announced a comprehensive strategy to prevent gun violence and make communities safer:
“President Biden’s comprehensive strategy to curb gun violence will leave our families and communities safer. One of the most critical steps we can take to end gun violence is ending the special immunity from liability that the gun industry enjoys. For years, I’ve been working to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which gives gun manufacturers and distributers an unprecedented liability shield, even when they act with negligent disregard for public safety.
“I look forward to working with President Biden on finally repealing this dangerous law, which the NRA called its ‘number one priority’ at the time of its enactment. Bad actors in the gun industry don’t deserve to be shielded from accountability. It’s time to hold the gun industry accountable for the death and devastation their negligent manufacturing, distribution, and marketing practices have caused.”
Schiff has led Congressional efforts to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act since the 113th Congress.
