Rep. Adam Schiff Votes for Servicemember Paid Parental Leave, Pay Raises, Reaffirms Commitment to U.S. Allies in Annual National Defense Bill
Washington, D.C. — Today, Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released the following statement after voting to pass the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which received overwhelming bipartisan support in a 310-118 vote. The NDAA will support military spouses and families with investments in housing, child care, establishing parity for paid parental leave, and expanded access to health care while also helping to continue material support to U.S. allies and partners around the world like Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. The bill now heads to President Joe Biden’s desk where it will be signed into law.
“Our military families and servicemembers sacrifice so much in service of our country. Americans owe them a debt of gratitude. It’s why I voted to give our servicemembers much needed pay raises, to expand investments in safe and affordable housing, to improve mental health care access and transparency, to ensure parity for sick leave and parental leave, and to continue access to reproductive care as well as improve child care for military families,” said Rep. Adam Schiff.
“While the bill wasn’t perfect, I am glad the final legislation rejected MAGA Republicans’ harmful extremist policies and protects servicemembers’ access to abortion care and gender-affirming care. This legislation also continues critical support for our allies and partners around the world including Ukraine as it continues to fight back against Vladimir Putin’s illegal and brutal war. While I applaud the steps we’ve taken to support our servicemembers at home and abroad, Congress must also do more to make key investments in public education, health care, and housing,” concluded Schiff.
