Congressman Schiff on Raising the Debt Ceiling
“Playing fast and loose with the full faith and credit of the United States would cost millions of people their life savings and their livelihoods. Tonight's vote paves the way for Congress to increase the debt limit, allowing us to keep our promises to seniors and veterans who rely on their Social Security and pension benefits. It allows us to continue the most significant reduction of child poverty in American history. And it allows us to continue making headway in our economic recovery as we continue to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I urge my Republican colleagues in the Senate to keep this in mind as we move swiftly towards a solution that benefits all of our constituents.”
