Congressman Schiff on President Biden Signing Ukrainian Aid, Support for American Workers and Families Into Law

“At this watershed moment for our nation and for the world, Congress and the Biden administration have united around much-needed support for Ukraine and for families here at home.

“More than $13 billion is heading to the brave people of Ukraine as they valiantly defend their country and democracy itself against Vladimir Putin’s cruel and bloody war, and as millions of displaced civilians and families seek stability and refuge.

“Billions more will go towards lowering costs for American families by expanding access to childcare programs, affordable housing, nutrition assistance, and higher education. Critical infrastructure projects are getting more shovels in the ground to deliver much-needed upgrades to our roads and bridges. And our intelligence community will receive the resources it needs to protect our people against immediate and future threats.

“I am grateful that we were able to work in a bipartisan fashion to get this package passed and enacted into law.”

The government funding legislation signed today also includes:

  • A $400 increase to the maximum Pell Grant award
  • Funding for President Biden’s new cancer research initiative, ARPA-H
  • The reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act
  • New protections against cyberattacks by Russia and other bad actors
  • Nearly $8 million for Schiff-championed health, housing, education, and cultural community projects in California’s 28th congressional district
