Congressman Schiff on Passing of Secretary of State Madeleine Albright

"Secretary Albright was one of the fiercest, most dedicated champions of democratic values and human rights our nation has known. A refugee who came to America by way of Czechoslovakia, she knew intimately the necessity of our fight to bring freedom and dignity to people around the world. And on top of it all, she was a compassionate leader who was a mentor and inspiration to public servants everywhere.

 

"It’s been a true honor to get to know her and listen to her over the years. She was a wonderful mentor, always thoughtful and encouraging, and generous with her time. Her quiet confidence, her compassion for others, and her fierce intellect always shone through, whether we were sitting around a table or quietly catching up. Now, as a nation, we must honor Secretary Albright’s legacy by never wavering in our ongoing struggle to liberate the oppressed, care for the most vulnerable among us, and defend democracy for all.
