Congressman Schiff on House Passage of CHIPS & Science Act
“American ingenuity is second-to-none. Yet, for the last several years, we've been outstripped by foreign manufacturers who've invested billions of dollars in critical fields, while American investments have failed to keep up. Today, we are moving to close that gap. The CHIPS & Science Act will make investments in research, development, science, and manufacturing. It will ensure that essential goods – like the semiconductors that power everything from military equipment to cars, to microwaves – are made in America. And through these historic investments, the CHIPS & Science Act will create hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs in the most lucrative modern fields, opening the doors of opportunity wider than ever before. I was proud to vote yes on this legislation, and will continue to push for even more robust investments in manufacturing and science so that America can lead for generations to come.”
The CHIPS & Science Act will invest $280 billion in domestic semiconductor manufacturers and science and technology innovation to:
- Lower costs for American consumers by alleviating the shortage of chips that has driven up prices across the nation.
- Create hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs building advanced manufacturing facilities in America.
- End American dependence on foreign manufacturers by bringing key semiconductor manufacturing back to America.
- Revitalize American research and development to ensure the technologies that will define our future are made in America.
- Diversify and grow the STEM workforce so we can tap into the full potential of American ingenuity.
