Congressman Schiff on FBI Investigation Into HBCU Bomb Threats

"The recent bomb threats against Historically Black Colleges and Universities have been harrowing for students, faculty, and people across the nation who are rightfully concerned about the rise of racially-motivated domestic extremism. On Monday, in my capacity as Chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and along with Congressman André Carson, I requested a briefing from the FBI on these incidents. I am pleased that today the FBI announced it will investigate these threats as racially or ethnically motivated violent extremism and potential hate crimes.

"While no one was hurt and, fortunately, according to the FBI, no explosive devices were found on any of the affected campuses, these threats have been traumatic for many, and those responsible must be brought to justice. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies should work quickly to investigate these threats, and put an end to this campaign of terror against pillars of the Black community.”
