Congressman Schiff on Eviction Moratorium Extension
“Housing is a fundamental human right, and everyone — no matter what their zip code may be or their wealth — deserves to have a roof over their head. President Biden made the right decision to extend the eviction moratorium while the country is still recovering from the pandemic and the economic harm it caused. Keeping people safe, healthy, and housed must be our paramount responsibility.
“I also want to applaud the courageous demonstrations of commitment from so many of my colleagues, including Chairwoman Maxine Waters and Congresswoman Cori Bush, who refused to yield their ground until millions of families and children had the assurance of being able to stay safe in their homes.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated the conditions that lead people to become unhoused, from unemployment to unexpected medical expenses, so our commitment to creating a stronger and more just economy must not end today. The Congress must continue to fight for transformative legislation that will invest in our country’s human infrastructure, not just roads and bridges.”
