My Burbank: YMCA Cheers To 90 Years Raises $30,000

Lisa Paredes of My Burbank reports on the YMCA's 90th year anniversary fundraiser:

The Burbank YMCA Cheers To 90 Years fundraising event held Thursday, October 9, raised approximately $30,000 for the nonprofit organization’s financial assistance program. The party also celebrated 90 years of the Burbank Community YMCA’s work and outreach in the city.

Hundreds of people turned out for the event, held on the Nickelodeon Animation Studios campus, including Congressman Adam Schiff, Assemblyman Mike Gatto, Burbank Mayor Dr. David Gordon, Matthew Vallecilla (Field Representative for Congressman Brad Sherman), Vice Mayor Bob Frutos, City Treasurer Debbie Kukta, City Manager Mark Scott, City Clerk Zizette Mullins, Police Chief Scott LaChasse, Councilmember Jess Talamantes and Gary Olson, CEO/President of the Burbank Chamber of Commerce.

“My wife and kids and I have spent many hours over the years at the Y sweating it out,” commented Schiff. “We have always found the facilities, the staff, the management, the childcare, the personal trainers, the classes, just superlative.”

“You’ve done magnificent work and that’s not even beginning to talk about the broad array of services you provide to the community in so many ways, in dental care, in physical education and just dealing with quality care for young and old alike,” Schiff said as he praised the attending staff and administration of the YMCA. “It’s a tremendous institution and the Y has so much to be proud of.”
