Dem glad 'partisan' Benghazi probe 'finally done' (The Hill)
Rep Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) says the House Select Committee on Benghazi was a failed partisan exercise, and he's glad the effort is finally over.
"We had a fairly silent, ignominious end to this committee. It's real purpose... was to drive down Secretary [Hillary] Clinton's poll numbers," Schiff told host John Catsimatidis on "The Cats Roundtable" on Sunday.
"It was pretty much just a partisan exercise," he continued. "That was a terrible abuse of a select committee — a taxpayer-funded committee.
"It's good it's finally done with," added Schiff. "It lasted longer than the 9/11 Commission, and unfortunately was just a partisan exercise."
The committee wrapped up its investigation into the 2012 Benghazi attacks in June, releasing an 800-page report that was very critical of Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president. Clinton was secretary of State during the time of the attacks.
The report, after more than two years of work and $7 million, though failed to fundamentally alter the public’s understanding of the bloody incident, which left four Americans dead and has stirred controversy throughout President Obama’s time in office.
Democrats on the panel released their own report protesting the probe and questioning the Republicans' findings.
