Schiff Statement on the Select Committee to Investigate January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement after being named to the Select Committee to Investigate January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol:
“I am grateful to Speaker Pelosi for her leadership in establishing the Select Committee to investigate the January 6 insurrection, and for the trust she has placed in me and my fellow committee members. Under Chairman Bennie Thompson, it will be our duty to investigate the events leading up to and during the violent insurrection, and to determine how to best protect our fragile democracy moving forward. This is a solemn responsibility that we will undertake with seriousness and dedication.
“We will have a full accounting of that deadly day, and we will endeavor to do so with bipartisan sobriety. After our democracy faced its most serious threat since the Civil War, the American people deserve nothing less than the full truth.”
