Rep. Schiff Votes for Emergency Assistance to Israel

Washington, D.C.— Today, Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released the following statement in support of sending emergency assistance to Israel following the deadly attacks on October 7:

“It has been four months since Hamas’s horrific terrorist attacks on Israel. Yet, the United States has not sent assistance to its closest ally in the Middle East. Today, I voted to do exactly that.

“There is no question in my mind: the United States must continue to support Israel in its time of greatest need. Nevertheless, to bring this bill to the floor without humanitarian support for Palestinians in Gaza — because the Speaker wished to undermine Democratic support for the bill — was cynical and contrary to the interests of a strong and bipartisan U.S./Israel relationship.

“It is absolutely critical that we do everything possible to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza, who are the victims of Hamas’ actions, by swiftly providing the humanitarian assistance needed. The United States must also continue to support Ukraine and Taiwan, both of whom are in dire need of emergency support.

“Our work is not finished. I will keep pushing to ensure that Ukraine, Taiwan, and innocent civilians in Gaza get the supplemental aid needed. It’s my hope that when this legislation is sent to the Senate, it is sent back to us with Ukraine, Taiwan, and humanitarian assistance included.

“I encourage my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to come to an agreement to ensure there is a bipartisan path forward.”
