Congressman Schiff Hosts Press Conference on Infrastructure Investments and Benefits for L.A. County Residents

Today, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) hosted a press conference to highlight the historic investments of the Congressional bipartisan infrastructure bill – including for roads, bridges, highways, public transit, and passenger rail – and how they will improve the lives of Los Angeles County residents.

“In Los Angeles County, decades of lagging infrastructure investment has resulted in crumbling roads and highways, aging and incomplete rail systems, and many challenges facing public transit, creating daily headaches and, worse still, barriers to secure employment, affordable housing, and quality time with our families,” said Congressman Schiff. “That’s why I’m so proud to have supported President Biden’s bipartisan infrastructure package and prouder still to share with the people of Glendale just some of the ways that this package will improve our quality of life.”

“We thank Congressman Schiff for his part in helping secure this historic, once-in-a-generation investment for our communities,” said Glendale Mayor Devine. “Glendale is excited to be a part of this new chapter in infrastructure development. This investment will not only contribute to the betterment of our roads, bridges, and public transit, but will also provide an opportunity for well-paying jobs that help families in our community.”

“From rail expansion to fire mitigation, grid hardening to drinking water, infrastructure, and environmental protection - this is a generational commitment to our future and a shot in the arm for the 25th Senate District,” said California Senator Anthony J. Portantino. “I am grateful to Congressman Schiff, Congressional and Senate leaders, and the bi-partisan support for this critical investment.  Just thinking of how broadband became central to our social and academic survival, and the impact that wildfires have had in our foothills underscores how the pandemic crystalized many long-standing and unmet needs.  With this action, Washington is taking a bold step to meet those needs and inject resources across California and here at home in our district.”

“The funding that is coming into California from the federal government is a perfect fit with California’s priorities, and our goals as we recover from the pandemic,” said Assemblymember Laura Friedman. “The funding will help us protect our crucial infrastructure, respond to climate change, reduce flood and fire risk, invest in mass transit, and create good jobs. I’d like to thank Rep. Schiff for his advocacy for our state and region and for fighting to bring these vital dollars home.”

“The passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will ensure that Metro has the critical resources required to bring more mobility options to Los Angeles County residents, with a sharp focus on serving historically underserved communities,” said LA Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins. "Metro is grateful to Congressman Schiff for his important leadership in working to pass this visionary legislation.”

“We are so grateful for Congressman Schiff’s leadership in passing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act,” said Metrolink CEO Darren Kettle. “Because of this bill, public transportation operators across the country and here in the greater Los Angeles region will have more resources to enhance passenger rail infrastructure and services. With these funds, Metrolink will continue to work toward making the Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion (SCORE) program a reality. SCORE is an ambitious capital program that will upgrade Metrolink's system in time for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
