Freedom of the Press Caucus Co-Chairs Condemn Sentencing of Vietnamese Journalist Truong Duy Nhat

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representatives Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Steve Chabot (R-OH), Co-Chairs of the Freedom of the Press Caucus, released the following statement on the conviction of Radio Free Asia blogger Truong Duy Nhat in Vietnam:

“As co-chairs of the bipartisan Freedom of the Press Caucus, we are deeply concerned by yesterday’s conviction of journalist Truong Duy Nhat in Vietnam. Mr. Nhat is a weekly contributor to Radio Free Asia and has been held in pretrial detention in Vietnam for over a year after being abducted during a visit to Thailand where he sought political asylum. No journalist should be subject to intimidation or prosecution for reporting or commentary. We urge Vietnamese authorities to drop their politically-motivated charges against Mr. Nhat immediately and allow him and all journalists to continue their work without intimidation.”
