Rep. Schiff Announces La Cañada High School Named “National Blue Ribbon” School (Crescenta Valley Weekly)
Today, Rep. Schiff congratulated La Cañada High School for being recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School and released the following statement:
“I want to congratulate the students, teachers, school board members and administrative staff on the occasion of La Cañada High School being named a Blue Ribbon school. Every year, the National Blue Ribbon award graces the entrances of schools that excel at producing the best students. It is a testament to the entire community, and the hard work and dedication of the school’s staff and students that La Cañada High School has earned this important accolade.”
The school was one of 33 Blue Ribbon schools in the state and 335 in the nation so named by the U.S. Secretary of Education. National Blue Ribbon schools are recognized for their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups, demonstrating that all students can achieve to high levels.
Throughout the 33 year history of the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, the award has affirmed the hard work of students, educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. The award flag gracing a school’s building or entryway has been widely recognized by everyone – from parents to policymakers – in thousands of communities as a symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.
At the invitation of Secretary Duncan, representatives from each school, including La Cañada Elementary School, will be formally recognized on November 9 and 10 at a recognition ceremony in Washington, DC. At the ceremony, each school will be presented with an award plaque and a flag as symbols of their accomplishments.
