Washington D.C. – Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) has received praise from various advocacy organizations for his outstanding voting record on children’s, veterans, women’s rights, environmental, and civil rights issues. Rep. Schiff received positive reviews for votes he cast in Congress from the Children’s Defense Fund, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America Action Fund, American Association of University Women, the League of Conservation Voters, and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights.
“I am proud to represent California’s 29th Congressional district and have always voted with my constituents’ best interests in mind,” said Schiff. “These advocacy organizations do superb work promoting important causes and informing the public and public officials on the local, state and federal level. I thank them for their work and for recognizing my efforts on behalf of the people of the 29th Congressional district.”
The Children's Defense Fund Action Council (CDFAC) is a nonpartisan non-profit organization that seeks to provide a strong, effective voice for all the children of America. The CDFAC pays particular attention to the needs of poor, minority children, and the disabled. Their Congressional Scorecard provides critical information about whether Members of Congress acted to protect the interests of children. On the most recent scorecard, that was announced in late October, the CDFAC scored nine House votes that directly impact the lives of children. Rep. Schiff received a score of 89 percent.
Rep. Schiff received an “A-” for votes he cast in favor of US troops, Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans, and military families since September 11th, 2001. The grade was handed out by the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America Action Fund (IAVA). The IAVA’s scorecard was based on over 300 votes on issues that matter to America's men and women in uniform, our new veterans, and our military families.
The Association of University Women (AAUW) gave Rep. Schiff a perfect score for critical votes he cast in the 109th Congress. The AAUW Congressional Voting Record scored Members of Congress on their votes on Pell grant funding, vocational education reauthorization, funding for higher education, the federal marriage amendment, and reproductive rights. The AAUW has more than 100,000 bipartisan members including more than 20,000 in California.
On environmental issues, Rep. Schiff received a 100 percent for his voting record in 2006 from the League of Conservation Voters. The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) advocates for sound environmental policies. Each year the LCV issues a “National Environmental Scorecard” that shows how members of congress voted on the most important environmental issues brought before the House.
Rep. Schiff was one of only 89 Members of Congress to receive 100 percent for his voting record on civil rights issues from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. The Leadership Conference on Civil Rights is a civil rights coalition made up of nearly 200 organizations representing persons of color, women, children, labor unions, individuals with disabilities, older American, major religious groups, gays and lesbians, and civil liberties and human right groups. They advocate on behalf of policies that work to advance equal justice and equal opportunity.
Representative Schiff is a former federal prosecutor and the co-founder of the Democratic Study Group on National Security. He serves on both the House Judiciary and International Relations committees. He represents California’s 29th Congressional District, which includes the communities of Alhambra, Altadena, Burbank, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Glendale, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Temple City.
