Schiff Receives Perfect Score on Disabled Veterans’ Issues

WASHINGTON, DC – The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) have awarded Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) a perfect score on his voting record on disabled veterans’ issues.  DAV is an organization of more than 1.2 million members that works to assist and improve the lives of disabled veterans. Each year the DAV scores all members of Congress on their support for legislation that impacts DAV interests.

“This weekend we pause to remember the hundreds of thousands throughout our history who have made the ultimate sacrifice in giving their lives to protect our freedom,” Schiff said.  “I am proud to have been recognized by the Disabled American Veterans and thank them for the important work they do helping our disabled veterans and their families.”

“These brave men and women had the courage to stand up and defend our democratic values and they deserve our utmost gratitude.  As military conflicts continue around the world, I thank all those who continue to answer the call to duty to defend and protect our great nation at home and abroad.  We owe all that we have – our freedom, security, and prosperity - to the sacrifices made by our military men and woman. They are true heroes.”

Congressman Schiff is the cosponsor of a number of measures to support disabled veterans initiatives.  Below are some of the key measures affecting veterans that Congressman Schiff is currently cosponsoring:

  • The Retired Pay Restoration Act (H.R. 303) which would permit retired members of the Armed Forces who have a military disability to receive both military retirement pay and disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs for their disability.
  • The Veterans Housing Improvement Act of 2005 (HR 3665) to increase the cap on grants given to disabled veterans to help them pay for wheelchair ramps or other modifications on their homes.
  • Disabled Veterans Fairness Act (H.R. 4025) which would allow disabled military retirees whose disability claims have been pending for more than 3 years to receive back taxes for all the years that their claim was pending.

Congressman Schiff is a former federal prosecutor and the co-founder of the Democratic Study Group on National Security.  He serves on both the House Judiciary and International Relations committees.  He represents California’s 29th Congressional District, which includes the communities of Alhambra, Altadena, Burbank, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Glendale, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Temple City.
