Washington, D.C. – Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) will co-host a national online town hall meeting about the genocide in Darfur tomorrow, May 25th at 10:00 A.M. Pacific Time. The online town hall meeting is open to everyone and Rep. Schiff is encouraging his constituents to join him in participating in this timely discussion. This new online town hall forum is aimed at energizing people throughout the United States to become involved in the political process and voice their opinions to lawmakers on this critical topic.
“Putting an end to the genocide in Darfur is a moral imperative, and all of my constituents have valuable insight into how we can step up our efforts to halt the bloodshed,” Schiff said. “This new online forum will provide an additional way to communicate with my constituents and explore new ways to make progress in Darfur.”
In addition to members of the Democratic Congressional Caucus who will also be participating, a Sudanese refugee has been invited to attend to share his story and respond to questions. Sudanese government soldiers and members of the government-sponsored militia have driven millions from their homes, and have terrorized, raped, and murdered hundreds of thousands. The living conditions in the Darfur region are deplorable, with scores of civilians dying each day from malnutrition and the lack of clean water and adequate health care.
Next week, Rep. Schiff will host similar in person town hall meetings on Darfur with students at Pasadena High School on Thursday and Glendale High School on Friday.
