WASHINGTON, DC – Today the House passed the Science, State, Justice and Commerce Appropriations Bill which included funding for a high school violence prevention program in Burbank and Glendale.
We Care for Youth (WCFY) is a non-profit organization working to reduce violence among teenagers. The federal funds will allow the program to expand its successful anti-gang program at Hoover High School of Glendale into Burbank and Pasadena high schools. The expansion would provide 4,500 teenagers with during and after-school programs teaching violence prevention tools and alternatives to hazardous behaviors. Through mentoring and other activities, they will receive the leadership and self-confidence building measures they need to resist joining a gang.
The funding amounts will be finalized once the bill is approved by the Senate and signed by the President.
