WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) was an original co-sponsor of “The Affirmation of the U.S. Record on the Armenian Genocide Resolution” today. He joined Congressman George Radanovich, Frank Pallone, and Joe Knollenberg.
The legislation calls on the President to “ensure that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate understanding” of the “Armenian Genocide” and to “accurately characterize the systematic and deliberate annihilation of 1,500,000 Armenians as genocide.”
The bill has the support of 54 Members of Congress, the Armenian National Committee of America and the Armenian Assembly of America.
“On the 90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide it is high time to recognize the deliberate murder of a million and a half Armenians during the first genocide of the 20th century. Passing a resolution commemorating the genocide will be an important first step in the long process of healing that needs to take place,” said Schiff.
Congressman Schiff is a member of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, the co-founder of the Democratic Study Group on National Security and a member of both the House Judiciary and International Relations committees. He represents California’s 29th Congressional District, which includes the communities of Alhambra, Altadena, Burbank, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Glendale, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Temple City.
