WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) will join Los Angeles Mayor James K. Hahn and other officials at the Griffith Observatory on Wednesday for a site tour and press conference that will feature a reopening announcement, an unveiling of a model of the renovated facilities and a presentation of federal funding.

This past year, Congressman Schiff and other Members of the Southern California delegation secured a total of $2.75 million for Griffith Observatory to help their annual two million visitors better understand astronomy and space exploration through new educational programs and exhibits. The $2 million from the FY 2005 Defense Appropriations bill (H.R. 4613) and $750,000 in the FY 2005 Omnibus Appropriations Act (H.R. 4818) will be included as part of the Observatory’s ongoing $83 million renovation.
Congressman Schiff is the co-founder of the Democratic Study Group on National Security and a member of both the House Judiciary and International Relations committees. He represents California’s 29th Congressional District, which includes the communities of Alhambra, Altadena, Burbank, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Glendale, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Temple City
