Local Lawmaker to Discuss Recent Middle East Trip, Will Receive Award from CA Army National Guard Division
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) will discuss his most recent trip to Iraq and Afghanistan with the Los Angeles County Veterans Advisory Commission on October 13. He will also be receiving a plaque from Command Sgt. Major Stu Fuller of the California Army National Guard 40th Division in honor of his continuing support of soldiers and their families. “The soldiers, the families and the command structure of the California Army National Guard appreciate everything the Congressman has done in the spirit of patriotism,” said Staff Sgt. Carvel Gay, a Vice Chair of the Commission.

In August 2004, Congressman Schiff traveled with five other Members of Congress to Iraq, Afghanistan, Bahrain and Pakistan to visit U.S. troops and receive updates on intelligence and military operations. He met in Baghdad with Californians in the Army’s 1st Cavalry Division whom he presented with a banner made by children at the Asian Youth Center in San Gabriel, California. He also had dinner with U.S. troops based in Afghanistan and spent one evening aboard the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) in the Persian Gulf.
In May 2004, Congressman Schiff traveled to the Marines’ Memorial Club in San Francisco’s Union Square neighborhood to welcome home the 223rd Military Intelligence Battalion of the California Army National Guard. Among the Battalion’s six companies was Charlie Company of Glendale, composed of soldiers who served more than a year in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo. In 2002, Schiff hosted a Military Families Appreciation Day at the Glendale National Guard Armory for the families of soldiers serving overseas.
Congressman Schiff is the co-founder of the Democratic Study Group on National Security and a member of both the House Judiciary and International Relations committees. He represents California’s 29th Congressional District, which includes the communities of Alhambra, Altadena, Burbank, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Glendale, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Temple City.
