WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) will travel to the Middle East this month visiting U.S. troops and receiving updates on intelligence and military operations. He will be bringing cards, letters, posters and banners made by local children to personally present to soldiers deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“These brave Americans face extraordinary challenges every day, and I want to make sure they are receiving the support they need to do their jobs and come home safely. I also look forward to bringing our troops messages of gratitude from some of my youngest constituents,” Congressman Schiff said.
Scheduled to provide cards are the Boys & Girls Clubs of Pasadena and Burbank, Homenetmen – Glendale Ararat Chapter, the New Horizons Youth Recreation Center, Armenian National Committee – Western Region and Armenian Youth Federation also in Glendale and the Asian Youth Center in San Gabriel.
Among the highlights scheduled for the late August trip will be meetings with top level foreign leaders, such as General Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan. The official Congressional delegation trip will include four other Members of Congress, and they will be escorted throughout the entire trip by the U.S. Marine Corps.
Congressman Schiff visited our troops in Iraq in August 2003 and Afghanistan in April 2002. Both of these trips were also with official Congressional delegations.
“As long as our soldiers are in harm’s way, I intend to continue visiting them wherever they are, and make sure they know we are behind them,” Congressman Schiff said.
Congressman Schiff is the co-founder of the Democratic Study Group on National Security and a member of both the House Judiciary and International Relations committees. He represents California’s 29th Congressional District, which includes the communities of Alhambra, Altadena, Burbank, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Glendale, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Temple City.
