Lawmakers Seek Significant Federal Funding for Research
WASHINGTON, DC – A bipartisan majority of California’s Congressional Delegation signed onto a letter authored by Representatives Adam Schiff (CA-29) and David Dreier (CA-26) that seeks significant funding for scientific research programs in various federal agencies. “Science research and technological development drives innovation for major segments of the economy in California and throughout the country,” Representative Schiff wrote.
Representative Schiff’s letter to House Appropriations Committee Chairman Bill Young and Ranking Member David Obey seeks robust Fiscal Year 2005 science funding allocations for NASA, the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Energy Department (DOE), the Defense Department (DOD) and the Agriculture Department (USDA). Representative Schiff cites the needed investment in this field to make gains in health care, technology and homeland security.
Thirty-seven other California House Members signed the letter, including House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Representatives Joe Baca, Xavier Becerra, Howard Berman, Mary Bono, Ken Calvert, Lois Capps, Dennis Cardoza, Randy “Duke” Cunningham, Susan Davis, Cal Dooley, Anna Eshoo, Sam Farr, Bob Filner, Jane Harman, Mike Honda, Darrell Issa, Tom Lantos, Barbara Lee, Zoe Lofgren, Robert Matsui, Juanita Millender-McDonald, George Miller, Grace Napolitano, Doug Ose, George Radanovich, Brad Sherman, Pete Stark, Linda Sanchez, Loretta Sanchez, Hilda Solis, Ellen Tauscher, Mike Thompson, Maxine Waters, Diane Watson, Henry Waxman and Lynn Woolsey.
