Schiff Congratulates Pasadena Senior and
Temple City Seniors on Award-Winning Photo
Local Resident Earns Honorable Mention in National
Photography Contest
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) congratulated Pasadena senior citizen Don Nelson for winning an honorable mention in the 2004 Older Americans Month National Photography Contest for his “Baby Whisperer” photograph. Using his family as models, Nelson captured a loving embrace between his 97-year-old father-in-law, Wytie Lubin of Temple City, and Lubin’s four-month-old great granddaughter, Arev Walker.
“I am proud that senior citizens such as Mr. Nelson use the breadth of their talents and contribute to our communities and country,” Schiff said. “I am sure that Mr. Nelson’s family will treasure the photograph for many years to come.”
Through sponsorship by the Temple City Seniors, Baby Whisperer was entered in the “Aging Well, Living Well” photography contest. Held annually by the U.S. Administration on Aging in partnership with the National Institute of Senior Centers, the contest is designed to enhance the image of older persons to all generations of Americans. Schiff met with Nelson and Mary McCune, a representative of the Temple City Seniors, in his Washington office on Thursday.
“The Temple City Seniors have enriched the lives of numerous older Americans,” Schiff said. “I applaud their valuable work.”
