Schiff Secures $750,000 For Pasadena To Improve Sierra Madre Villa Gold Line Station

Funding Included in FY 04 House Appropriations Subcommittee
on Transportation Bill

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Adam Schiff announced today that the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation has included $750,000 in its FY 04 spending bill for the City of Pasadena to construct a pedestrian bridge over the 210 Freeway to the Sierra Madre Villa Station of the Pasadena Gold Line.

"The construction of the pedestrian bridge is integral to the overall efficiency and success of the Pasadena Gold Line," Rep Schiff said today. "Pedestrian access to the southern end of the station over the busy 210 Freeway is essential to encourage broad use of the rail line in Pasadena. This is a quality of life issue for those residents that rely heavily on public transportation and I urge the full Committee to keep this funding in the final bill that will go to the House floor."

Sierra Madre Villa Station is the eastern endpoint on the Pasadena Gold Line and serves some of the most transit-dependent neighborhoods in the City of Pasadena and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. The construction of a pedestrian bridge over the eastbound 210 Freeway will provide access to the southern end of the station - an essential entryway for residents, most of whom are separated from the Pasadena Gold Line by the busy 210 Freeway. Rep. Schiff testified in March before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation to request funding for this project.

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation FY 04 spending bill currently awaits final approval by the full House Appropriations Committee.

Rep. Schiff represents California’s 29th Congressional District, including the communities of Alhambra, Altadena, Burbank, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Glendale, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Temple City.
