Funds for Trolley System to Alleviate Traffic Congestion
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Adam Schiff testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Treasury, and Independent Agencies today to request $2 million for the City of Glendale to build a Trolley System to alleviate traffic congestion downtown.
"Over the last 30 years, the City of Glendale has grown from a small suburb of Los Angeles to one of the nation's one hundred largest communities," Rep. Schiff said today. "Unfortunately, such growth often has the consequence of increased traffic congestion. These funds for a Trolley System in downtown Glendale will significantly help unclog clog traffic jams and give residents and consumers a new and different transit alternative."
Frustrated by the problems resulting from the influx of traffic in Glendale, the City has developed a plan - a Trolley System - to decrease congestion, improve access, and connect residents with major centers in the downtown area. Schiff requested to $2 million as part of the Department of Transportation and Related Agencies Appropriations Act to help the City of Glendale develop a working Trolley System. The Trolley System would help alleviate traffic problems by offering downtown employees and consumers an additional transportation choice, thereby decreasing the overall congestion in the downtown area.
Rep. Schiff represents California’s 29th Congressional District, including the communities of Alhambra, Altadena, Burbank, East Pasadena, East San Gabriel, Glendale, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Temple City.
