Encompassing over 4,107 acres of natural terrain covered with California oak trees, wild sage and manzanita, Griffith Park is the United States' largest municipal park. Griffith Park is also home to the Hollywood sign, which stands on Mt. Lee.

This vast park is located at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains, just west of the Golden State Freeway Interstate 5. It is often thought that the park was donated or named for Hollywood film mogul, D.W. Griffith.  This is in error, since the parkland was donated by, and named for -- Griffith J. Griffith -- a Welsh miner who earned his fortune in gold.

Among the park’s features are: The Autry National Center, The Griffith Park Observatory, The Los Angeles Zoo, Travel Town Museum and The Greek Theatre.

Griffith Park is open to the public from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.  Griffith Park is also home to countless picnic grounds, golf courses, campgrounds, a Merry-Go-Round, Pony Rides and a Railroad.  During the holiday season, Griffith Park hosts the Los Angeles DWP's Holiday Light Festival.
