The largest city in the 29th Congressional District, Glendale is located near the eastern border of the San Fernando Valley. According to the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 194,973.  In 2004, the Glendale municipal government estimated the population at 205,300.  It is the third largest city in Los Angeles County.

Glendale is a city rich in diversity – and is home to one of the largest Armenian American populations in the country.

Glendale boasts a 50-seat planetarium at the newly opened Cimmarusti Science Center at Glendale Community College, and residents of the greater Glendale area can enjoy eclectic entertainment venues such as The Alex TheatreA Noise Within and The Glendale Center Theatre.  

Three nationally-renowned hospitals (Glendale Memorial HospitalGlendale Adventist Medical Center and Verdugo Hills Hospital) ensure that Glendale residents have access to superior health care. Over 30 parks for recreation and enjoyment as well as 6 libraries are scattered throughout the city.

Many companies make their corporate home in Glendale and it has been estimated that Glendale is the third largest financial center in the State. The City's economy is dominated primarily by the retail and service industry. In addition to being home to international companies such as Nestle, USA – recent entertainment industry additions to the city include Dreamworks Animation Studios and KABC-TV.
